The Sackcloth Man

sack-cloth manFrom the time Anu can remember, the Sackcloth Man has been around in the village. Who is he? Where did he come from? Doesn't he have a home or family? The slowly growing friendship between Anu and the Sackcloth Man is at the centre of this story. The Sackclothman is written by Jayasree Kalathil and illustrated by Rakhi Peswani.

The Sackclothman is part of a series of children's books produced by Anveshi Research Centre for Women's Studies, Hyderabad, and published by DC Books, Kottayam. The books came out of a project called "Different Tales: Stories from Marginal Cultures and Regional Languages." The stories in the series put forward readings of childhood that reflect the resilience and complexity of children's experiences. Ten stories are being published in three languages - English, Telugu and Malayalam.
